September

Shifting temperatures and changing light shorten the days in September, a month that feels like the end of an era, yet the beginning of something new and exciting to come. Parts of the hillsides could come early into colorful fall foliage, but maybe not. With one foot firmly placed in the last days of summer and the other stepping forward anticipating the next season, it is a time for preparation: putting to bed summer’s pleasures, cutting back the kitchen gardens, organizing wood for the stoves and fireplaces, and thinking ahead to what’s needed for winter.
